The collaboration between The Girl Guides Association of Guyana and STEM Guyana ignited an exciting opportunity for youth in New Amsterdam to immerse themselves in the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Held at the Teacher’s Union Hall, the session commenced with an informative introduction to STEM and STEM Guyana’s mission and objectives.
With eagerness and enthusiasm, participants eagerly delved into Scratch coding, where they crafted interactive animations, igniting their creativity and problem-solving abilities. Moving forward, they explored robotics programming, mastering the operation of various sensors such as the IR sensor and LED sensor. Impressively, several girls achieved success in programming the DC motors on their first try, underscoring their talent and determination.
Throughout the session, the atmosphere remained vibrant and collaborative, teeming with curiosity, innovation, and empowerment. Participants seized the opportunity to delve into STEM concepts within a supportive environment, nurturing a sense of confidence and enthusiasm for future pursuits.
The program was expertly led by STEM Guyana Trainers Dominic Budhan, Xaria Holder, and T’Sahai Holder. Notably, the Holders were also members of the exceptional All-Girls National Robotics team that achieved remarkable success at the 2020 First Global Robotics Challenge in Singapore.
