Recognising the importance of the Diaspora’s contributions to the success of the STEMGuyana organization over the past four years, the STEMGuyana leadership team has created the 2 year term of Diaspora Ambassador and invited Ms Renita Duesbury-Tyler to be the first candidate to fill the role, she has graciously accepted.
Ms Duesbury-Tyler resides in New York and is Sr. Specialist at a Major North American Utility Company. She is also a member of Delta Mu Delta business honor society and a Former Alumni President. Ms Duesbury sat on several fundraising committees and was a former board member the Caribbean American Society of NY.
“Ms Duesbury-Tyler has supported the STEMGuyana organization from its inception and has been critical to helping STEMGuyana achieve its annual fundraising goals, and execute on the mission of the organization. We are happy to have her on board”, stated Director of STEMGuyana, Karen Abrams.
Ms Renita Duesbury-Tyler is an alumna of both North Ruimveldt Multilateral and St Roses High Schools and has claimed a space for herself in Guyana’s history as one of the nation’s premier track athletes.
Ms Duesbury-Tyler shared that, “My personal goals are to motivate, elevate and inspire others to be the best they can be. To always aim for the skies, and to use failure as lessons and stepping stones necessary to achieve goals and objectives. Most of all, to give back or pay it forward and to encourage folks to do the same.”
The Diaspora Ambassador role includes all activities associated with building bridges between Guyanese living in the Diaspora and the STEMGuyana Organization–fundraising, promoting bi-coastal programs and partnerships and creating opportunities for children of the diaspora to connect with children in Guyana in learning spaces.
In her rare down time, Renita likes to dabble in landscape design and gardening and she enjoys track and field events, basketball games, football and soccer, 20/20 cricket games and many other competitive sports.
“I embrace the concept of giving because the Return on Investment is infinite”, stated Ms Duesbury-Tyler.
